a dress and two tweens

I had two beautiful sisters in my studio last month. To stretch myself creatively, I decided to try for three unique shots of each girl, each wearing the same outfit – a lacy vintage dress.

During a portrait sitting I like to start with a classic three quarter pose.  I can see how the person moves, figure out their better side, and observe how at ease they are in front of the camera.

What I really love, though, are the close-ups. The human face never ceases to fascinate me! Here I’ve added variety by placing hands in the frame, shooting into the backlight, and blowing a fan to get movement in the hair.

To finish up, I play a bit. Annaliese loves to dance, so she twirled while I got a full frame shot of her.

Olivia has eyes the color of the ocean, so I added a tropical feel with flowers.

And voila. Six beautiful shots!
