Color is good for the soul
With the cold grey of winter settling into the Northeast, I find the need to seek inspiration from the colors of artwork. Here are some of my favorite images from recent trips to the city. There’s almost a healing power to art, with its sensations of color and patterns. Do you have museums near you? Maybe you can go explore and put together a collage like this. (I use an app called PhotoGrid). I’d love to see what catches your eye!
top left: Mural at SPiN, a ping pong bar in Manhattan owned by Susan Sarandon. Lots of cool murals there, even in the bathroom!
top middle: Delecroix at The Met until 1/6/19. I didn’t know he painted flowers!
top right: Holiday window display at Saks Fifth Avenue
middle left: Odilon Redon at The Met. One of my favorite painters.
middle: Manhattan skyline from the Midtown Express train, Secaucus NJ
middle right: Hilma af Klint at the Guggenheim, a must see show! 19th c Swedish spiritual woman whose foray into abstraction predated Kandinsky and his peers
bottom left: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec at The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. I thought this was an Andrew Wyeth until I read the label. Love the mood.
bottom middle: Henry Matisse at The Barnes Foundation, one of my favorite museums
bottom right: Andy Warhol self portrait at The Whitney Museum. Amazing retrospective of his work. I had no idea he was such a deep and political thinker.
