50+ and Fabulous – in LA with Sue Bryce

We rented a wild and crazy loft in downtown LA, (James Brown’s former recording studio) and acted a bit like teenagers. Are we a bunch of twenty year olds? Au contraire, we are all middle aged mothers from different parts of North America. Brought together to study with our portrait photography mentor and business coach, Sue Bryce.

Almost every one of the 170 people in the room was a woman, fifty years and older. One of the lovely ladies that bookend me in the top left photo has, count them, fourteen grandchildren. Holy sexy grandmother!

So what did we do together? We learned how to service the fabulous demographic of women, fifty and over. Day one started with lessons on how to stock our studios with silky fabric samples, and how to style them to look like beautiful gowns. We then learned how to pose women with a limited range of movement, and how to retouch responsibly. (Not too much skin smoothing, we earned these crows feet!) We learned how to make testimonial videos for marketing, which I am excited to try.

And at the end of day two, we learned that we are not just selling portraits to our clients, we are selling an amazing day, an experience of transformation, and memories that will last a lifetime. When we take gorgeous portraits of our clients and show your beauty back to you, we are selling self-confidence and empowerment. Pretty powerful stuff.

Here I am at the end of the event with Sue Bryce. She gave fully of herself with pure authenticity, and encouraged us to speak our own truth, with a big voice.

As I step into my own as a business owner, I thank Sue for her guidance and support, which daily helps me walk my path with certainty and conviction.
